Gala Benefit - May 4, 2006

On May 4, 2006, Shelter for the Homeless presented its second annual Gala at the Westin Hotel in Stamford, CT.  The theme for the evening event was “Leadership in Community Investment.”   This year’s honorees were Brian G. Grissler, President and CEO of Stamford Hospital and Joan and Frank Connor, exemplified leaders in our community.

The gala event was a phenomenal success.  Over 300 people attended and with everyone’s help, we raised over $230,000.  This money will be used to further the Shelter’s mission of providing safe overnight shelter for men who are homeless, and a wide range of support services to assist both homeless men and women achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency.

This was a truly wonderful event attended by supporters of Shelter for the Homeless.  Click on one of the links below if you would like to view the May 4, 2006, Gala program, photos, or view the profile of the honorees.

Recovery Graduation - March 29, 2006

On March 29, 2006, four recovery clients successfully completed the six month recovery program.  Shelter for the Homeless held a graduation ceremony for the graduates at our shelter.  The graduates were dressed in formal caps and gowns as they entered their ceremony in an emotional, but joyful procession.

In attendance were all shelter staff members, members of the Board of Directors, other clients and peers who are staying at the shelter, and a guest speaker.  Each recovery graduate was individually called forth to receive a certificate of completion followed by their personal speech and story of how they came to Shelter for the Homeless.

Considering that Shelter for the Homeless is a wet shelter, we are so very proud of our graduates having proven themselves as strong willed as each day they were challenged with their recovering from substance abuse.

Once again the Shelter would like to express how deeply proud we are of our graduates for their ability to successfully complete the recovery program.
